How is abdominoplasty performed?
An incision is performed in the lower part of the abdomen. That incision goes from the pubic area to both sides of the waist in order to remove all the excess skin and fat. Its length will depend on the quantity of removed tissue.
We will talk about frontal abdominoplasty when the scar is placed in the anterior part of the waist. And it will be a circumferential abdominoplasty when the scar is extended backwards. Circumferential abdominoplasty is the indicated technique for those patients who show an excess skin and fat in the flanks and the lower part of the back, achieving the best possible result. Underwear will conceal the resulting scar.
We will also perform another incision in the belly button in order to move it to its new position, making the scar imperceptible. Later, if necessary, rectus abdominis muscles will be tightened through their suture, and the skin and subcutaneous tissue will be strengthened and tightened. This way, we will correct flaccidity and we will achieve a more aesthetic and flat abdomen.
It is performed under general anaesthesia with a 24 hours hospitalization and the recovery period will take 4-6 weeks.
What does lipoabdominoplasty consist in?
It consists in combining abdominoplasty with abdominal liposuction. This is the best technique for the abdominal area, because it involves less risks and it produces more benefits than the traditional abdominoplasty.
What is mini-abdominoplasty?
Mini-abdominoplasty is indicated in those patients with excess skin and fat located in the lower part of the abdomen. Its main difference with abdominoplasty is that mini-abdominoplasty only tighten the lower part of the abdomen, being less aggressive than traditional abdominoplasty where the complete abdominal area is tighten.
Resulting scar in mini-abdominoplasty is smaller than in abdominoplasty, because it is similar to a caesarean scar.
