How is rhinoplasty performed?
There are two different procedures to perform a rhinoplasty: open or closed. Both of them, they will leave imperceptible scars.
- Open rhinoplasty: An incision on the columella (the base of the nose which separates the nostrils) is performed in order to lift the skin and, this way, nasal structures are shown. Thus, we will see them directly and correct those who need it. This is the preferred technique in most complex cases.

After surgery, two plugs will be introduced on your nostrils in order to stabilize the septum and to avoid bleeding. The patient must wear a nasal splint too, around 7 days, in order to maintain the new nasal shape.
Surgery will take between 60 and 180 minutes, depending on the complex of the intervention. If surgery has been performed under general anaesthesia, the patient will be admitted to hospital the day of the surgery and he will go home on that day or next day. If surgery has been performed under local anaesthesia with sedation, the patient will go home after surgery if possible, depending on the complex and duration of surgery.
Difference between rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty
Rhinoplasty and rhinoseptoplasty are both nasal surgeries. Rhinoplasty only modifies the external structures of the nose in order to achieve an aesthetic improvement. Rhinoseptoplasty also corrects the septum, when it has been damaged by injuries or congenital factors, improving this way the breathing and a possible nasal deviation.
